Dearbhla Fay
Dearbhla Fay is originally from just outside Dublin, Ireland, and is a member of the Notre Dame class of 2017. She is a German and history double major living in Ryan Hall. When she finishes her undergraduate studies, Fay plans to attend graduate school and eventually become a historian. Her essay describes her high school English classroom as a place of significant meaning in her life. She describes the relationship she has with the sea, the bond she formed with it, and how her life has changed since making the decision to attend a university 700 miles from the nearest ocean. It was her realization of the vast distance between her new educational home and her old friend the sea which acted as the inspiration for her essay. Fay would like to thank Mr. Bernard O'Boyle for instilling in her a great love for writing and for showing her the joy the study of English can bring.
